Starting May 30, 2026, it will be possible to access theformer Church of St. Francis in the Alexandria convent complex through a program of free guided tours. The opening to the public concerns a building that has undergone several functional transformations over the centuries, passing from convent to barracks and then to hospital, until the long phase of decommissioning that limited its accessibility for more than two centuries.
The survey, conservation and restoration work that took place over a period of about twenty-five years led to the gradual recovery of the complex. In particular, the architectural restoration work begun in 2022 was completed in recent weeks, restoring legibility to the interior spaces and surviving artistic evidence. The recovery project involved the entire layout of the former religious building, which is now destined to become a museum and cultural center.
According to the program, guided tours will begin at 4 p.m. and will take place every day from May 30 to June 2, 2026. Thereafter, the opening will continue on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, from June 6 to June 28, 2026, still with the same afternoon schedule.
