From Saturday, January 4, 2020, Alberto Angela will lead the third edition of the hit program Wonders - The Peninsula of Treasures in prime time on Rai1.

From Saturday, January 4, 2020, Meraviglie - The Peninsula of Treasures, the hit program hosted by Alberto Angela, now in its third edition, returns on Rai1.

As in previous editions, Meraviglie will be a journey of discovery of Italy’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites: four episodes in prime time, at 9:20 p.m., directed by Gabriele Cipollitti and produced entirely by Rai.

Many places will be presented: to name a few, the Duomo in Milan, the Reggia in Turin, the Archaeological Park of Paestum, the Basilica of San Marco, the fountains of Rome, and Palazzo Vecchio. Numerous actors will also take part in the program impersonating famous characters who have remained in history; among them, Remo Girone, Violante Placido, Massimo Bonetti, Fabio Troiano, Aurora Ruffino, Francesca Cavallin, Giorgio Marchesi, Fabio Angeletti.

The third edition will begin with Capri: Alberto Angela will lead viewers to admire the natural beauty of this extraordinary island in the Gulf of Naples, such as the world-famous Blue Grotto, but also to discover its history, from Villa Jovis, sumptuous home of Emperor Tiberius, to Villa Lysis, cradle of worldliness, to the path of the forts. Here, director Mario Martone will recount his first encounters with the island, while Violante Placido, impersonating Eleonora Duse, will evoke the diva’s conflicted relationship with Capri.

From Capri we will travel to Turin, in the splendid surroundings of the Royal Palace: the episodes that led to the birth of Italy and the curiosities of court life will be narrated. In the palace, Aurora Ruffino will play Queen Margherita, while Arturo Brachetti will tell how he was able to peek inside the palace, since he lives right next door to it.

Finally, the first episode will end in Rome, for a tour dedicated to the city’s fountains: the Gianicolo fountain, the Fountain of the Rivers, the Trevi fountain, and the Aqueducts Park. And the nearly 2,500 “nasoni,” the little fountains scattered throughout the capital. Carlo Verdone will speak with affection and amusement about his relationship with fountains and fontanelle, while Massimo Bonetti will be Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the famous artist who made so many of Rome’s fountains.
