Lancôme launches new skincare and makeup collection inspired by Louvre sculptures

Lancôme has launched a new collection of skincare and makeup products inspired by famous sculptures from the Louvre Museum. This is the first time the famous French brand has collaborated with the Parisian museum.

Lancôme, the famous French brand in the cosmetics industry, has partnered with the Louvre Museum for the first time to launch a new collection of makeup and skincare products: Lancôme x Louvre. The launch campaign was inspired by nine masterpieces of sculpture housed in the Parisian museum, including the Venus de Milo, Nike of Samothrace, Diana of Gabi, Nymph with Scorpion, Venus of Arles and the Sleeping Hermaphrodite.

The new collection was created by Lisa Eldridge, Global Creative Director of Lancôme Makeup, who was inspired by these very sculptures, their history and the myths they represent. Modeling for the Lancôme x Louvre campaign were Zendaya, Aya Nakamura, Amanda Seyfried and He Cong, well-known faces of the brand.

“I am delighted with this first collaboration with Lancôme, which highlights with incredible talent the diversity of beauty forms found in the Louvre collections-a dialogue between cultures and civilizations that transcends time and geography. Campaign ambassadors such as Venus de Milo, Nymph with Scorpion, and Gabi’s Diana are an opportunity for us to transport iconic and inspiring classical images and to compare and contrast them with contemporary images and canons. Art history and beauty, the ”making“ of beauty, the pursuit of beauty, are intimately linked. Pop culture-the culture of moving images, advertising, social media, and our daily lives-is often inspired by these timeless images and representations, sometimes very academic, sometimes very ancient. The Louvre Museum’s collections surprise and fascinate in their ability to provide a reading and understanding of how these canons are transformed, how they can be interpreted, and how they evolve. With this collaboration, the Louvre, as a modern art space, contributes to the rewriting of beauty in the present,” said Laurence des Cars, the President and Director of the Louvre Museum.

“At Lancôme, beauty is art in motion; beauty itself, as a personal ritual, is a means of expression and distinction, through codes-or non-codes, which are constantly evolving. This unprecedented creative partnership with the Louvre is a cultural reflection of this conviction and our mission for beauty at Lancôme. By pursuing the dialogue between our French brand with a nearly 90-year history and the most iconic temple of art, we want to continue to draw on our artistic heritage to open new horizons of beauty for today’s women and celebrate the fact that beauty is perpetual motion,” said Françoise Lehmann, Lancôme Brand President.
