Are art and culture an integral part of everyone’s daily and professional life? The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice tries to answer this question as part of its new Lunch Box project involving four professionals from four different fields: food, fashion, music and business.
Chiara Pavan is cheffe at Venissa, the restaurant (one Michelin star) on the estate of the same name on the island of Mazzorbo in the Venice lagoon. With her environmental cuisine, Pavan wants to convey the essence of a place through dishes, while at the same time adopting sustainable practices, such as sourcing locally, self-production, reducing animal protein, and preserving food through fermentation. Carolina Cucinelli is Co-President, Co-Creative Director, and Board Member of Brunello Cucinelli SpA: she intends to continue the path started by her father through his ideals, which translate into the desire for a better quality of life for everyone through culture. Indeed, Cucinelli believes that art, education and culture are fundamental values for individuals. Among his most significant projects is Be Your Change, which is content created together with personalities who share the brand’s values, touching on themes such as hope, courage and the future; he has also taken part in Artigiani Umanisti del Web, a project that aims to combine the ancient traditions of knowledge research with new channels for the circulation of ideas. Antonio Calabrò is Senior Vice President Institutional Affairs and Culture at Pirelli and Director of the Pirelli Foundation; he is also President of Museimpresa and the Assolombarda Foundation. He is Vice President of the Unione Industriali di Torino, Chairman of the Territorial Advisory Board of UniCredit Lombardia and member of the boards of numerous institutions and companies. A journalist and writer, he teaches at the Catholic University of Milan. Gloria Campaner is considered one of the most versatile and transversal pianists of her generation; she has collaborated with great artists from the world of jazz, electronic music, theater, dance and visual arts and has recorded for RAI, BBC, Sky, RSI and for the EMI, Warner Classics and Sony labels. He has complemented his concert work with a commitment to the dissemination of classical music across geographical, cultural and social boundaries. Developing his holistic view of art, he founded the C# See Sharp creative workshop to help young talents learn about and manage their emotional sphere.
On the occasion of Lunch Box these four protagonists will talk about their personal vision of culture and art in relation to their profession. The initiative takes the form of interviews, each conducted separately from the others by Ilaria Gasparri, a philosopher and writer. Born in Milan, she studied philosophy at the Scuola Normale in Pisa and earned her doctorate at the University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Her first novel Ethics of the Aquarium (Voland) was published in 2015, followed by Reasons and Feelings. Love Taken Philosophically (Sonzogno) in 2018, Lessons in Happiness. Philosophical Exercises for the Good Use of Life (Einaudi) in 2019, Secret Life of Emotions (Einaudi) in 2021. In addition to collaborating various newspapers and with Rai Radio3, he teaches writing courses at Scuola Holden and Scuola Omero.
The four interviews, each lasting twenty minutes, take place in the halls of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni and are broadcast live on the Peggy Guggenheim Collection’s LinkedIn and YouTube channels at lunchtime, also at 1 p.m., every Tuesday in October: the first two have already been broadcast live (Tuesday 4 Chiara Pavan, Tuesday 11 Carolina Cucinelli), but you can still hear them on the LinkedIn and YouTube channels; while Tuesday 18 will be Antonio Calabrò’s turn and finally Tuesday 25 Gloria Campaner’s.
Although sometimes we do not realize it, art and culture are an integral and fundamental part of everyday life. Through a strong transformative power they both stimulate a critical sense towards the present time. What about in professional life? Culture, art, and creativity have often inspired and determined the business making of Italian entrepreneurs. The growth of companies sees a narrative that has always been closely linked to art and creativity. Examples are Fortunato Depero and Gruppo Campari, or surrealist artists and some great fashion houses, such as Chanel and Schiaparelli.
The Lunch Box project is part of the calendar of activities related to the 30th anniversary of Guggenheim Intrapresæ, the museum’s corporate membership project, which since its inception has fostered a stimulating and creative dialogue between art and business. It is also part of the Capital of Enterprise Culture 2022 program.
