At the same time, composite work designed for the Museum for the Memory of Ustica

On Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 9:30 p.m., the composite work Allo stesso tempo, designed for the Ustica Memorial Museum, will be presented in Bologna.

On the occasion of the XXXIXth anniversary of the Ustica Massacre, the installation and performance Allo stesso tempo, a work by Giuseppe De Mattia, accompanied by the onstage voices of Francesca Bono and Emidio Clementi and the sounds of Stefano Pilia, will be presented in Bologna’s Parco della Zucca on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 9:30 pm.

Allo stesso tempo is acomposite work, conceived specifically for the Ustica Memorial Museum, in which the concepts of tragedy and time enter into dialogue.

Starting with the Disegni interrotti (Interrupted Drawings), a series of drawings to which the artist has been dedicated for some time and in which the breakage, of a plate or ceramic element, with its own decoration, determines fragments with a new abstract decoration. A kind of aesthetic remedy following a tragedy.

The drawing becomes a visual part of an audio composed of eighty-one recordings: the answers to a question asked to a sample of people born within 1970, namely, “What were you thinking about at the end of June, in 1980?”
At the same time it creates a parallel narrative of those days, beginning with June 27, 1980.

It also deals with the relativization of grief. That grief that from the first moment is only of the families of the victims and will become a collective grief.

The 81 interrupted drawings of the fragments of the aircraft follow each other in a video projection: Emidio Clementi and Francesca Bono, with sounds by composer Stefano Pilia, read the 81 short stories, born from the same question.
