The Orchestra of Tuscany will play in the cenacles of the Florentine Renaissance: six concerts between April and June

The Regional Directorate of the National Museums of Tuscany presents a new concert series that will bring the Orchestra of Tuscany to the Museum of San Marco and the cenacles of Sant'Apollonia, Fuligno, Ognissanti and Andrea del Sarto in San Salvi.

The Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany presents I luoghi dell’ascolto: a new concert series that will bring theOrchestra of Tuscany to the frescoed refectories of some of Florence’s most evocative state museums. The initiative is promoted by the National Museums of Tuscany Regional Directorate in collaboration with the Tuscany Regional Orchestra Foundation and with the support of the Ministry of Culture - General Directorate for Performing Arts. The program includes six musical events between April and June 2026, hosted at the Museum of San Marco and the cenacles of Sant’Apollonia, Fuligno, Ognissanti and Andrea del Sarto in San Salvi.

The project received the highest national score of 70 points in the call for proposals promoted by the Ministry of Culture dedicated to the enhancement of live performance within cultural venues.

The idea behind the initiative is to create a dialogue between music and the environments that preserve some of the most important testimonies of the Florentine Renaissance. In the cenacoli, spaces created for the community life of monasteries and enriched by pictorial cycles created by artists such as Andrea del Castagno, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Andrea del Sarto, music becomes a new interpretive key to the historical and artistic heritage.

The concerts will be held during normal museum opening hours, allowing visitors to enjoy an immersive listening experience within fascinating historical settings. The program will feature chamber ensembles composed by musicians from the Tuscan Regional Orchestra, with repertoires ranging from different eras and styles: from Viennese classicism to 20th-century music and Italian opera. The review will conclude with an orchestral concert in the cloister of the San Marco Museum.

The schedule will kick off on Sunday, April 12, at the Museo di San Marco with the ORT String Ensemble and the concert Uno sgambetto all’opera, which will juxtapose music by Wagner and Giovanni Sgambati. On Sunday, April 19, the Cenacle of Saint Apollonia will stage Incanto di Madrid, dedicated to the music of Luigi Boccherini. On May 10, at the Cenacolo di Fuligno, Tra le righe, with compositions by Mozart and Beethoven, will be held. On Sunday, May 24, at the Cenacolo di Ognissanti, the concert Fiati in Opera will offer a musical journey between Berio, Rota, Puccini and Verdi. On June 7, at the Cenacolo di Andrea del Sarto in San Salvi, the Hortensia Quartet will feature L’unico è l’ultimo, with music by Mendelssohn and Verdi. The festival will close on Sunday, June 21, in the cloister of the Museo di San Marco with the Orchestra della Toscana, conducted by Sieva Borzak, with Enrico Ruberti on double bass, in a program dedicated to Beethoven, Hoffmeister and Haydn.
