Mudec, large group work with over a hundred drawings to reflect on the need for art

Mudec presents a large group work made up of more than one hundred drawings born out of reflection on our need for art.

From January 19, 2021, a large collective work with over one hundred drawings collected during the call to action that the museum venue launched on the occasion of the publication of The Colouring Book will be visible on Mudec ’s website and social channels. The volume, edited by Rossella Farinotti and Gianmaria Biancuzzi, brings together one hundred and fifty drawings, to be colored and reworked, made by contemporary artists involved in the unreleased project.

"Why do we need art?": the social contest started from this very question, and there were many participants from all over Italy, from adults to the very young, who enthusiastically accepted the museum’s invitation to reflect on the role of art in society through their own creativity.

Students, journalists, teachers, but also many artists and illustrators tried their hand at reinterpreting to their own taste the book cover with the design of L.O.V.E created by Maurizio Cattelan for The Colouring Book, through their own experience, the use of color, word commentary, poetic evocation, the inclusion of material fragments and other images (photographs, cutouts of printed images) and any other technique, including digital.

From the individual works, a special digital mosaic was born, creating an emotional map capable of restoring values and feelings related to our need for art, with a personal reflection on the particular historical moment we are living.

All the images of the works that will make up the digital wall will be accompanied by a collection of the most significant phrases, answers and thoughts that emerged from the contest: hope, revenge, growth, comfort, freedom, innovation are some of the main key words.
