From Oct. 18, 2025, to Jan. 21, 2026, Fiesole offers an articulated program of events dedicated to Beato Angelico, the Renaissance master who found his spiritual and creative home in the Convent of San Domenico in the hills around Florence. The series of events, entitled Il Beato Angelico a Fiesole, is part of the exhibition Beato Angelico. Light of Heaven on Earth, underway at Palazzo Strozzi and the Museum of San Marco until Jan. 25, 2026, and contributes to the path of Fiesole’s candidacy as Italian Capital of Culture 2028, centered on the theme of dialogue. The initiative emphasizes the painter’s ability to communicate through light and beauty a universal message of harmony, acting as a bridge between heaven and earth, between human and divine worlds, between artistic languages and shared spirituality. The cultural proposal of the Tuscan capital aims to stimulate a comparison between different eras, communities and cultures through the figure of Giovanni da Fiesole.
The program opens on Saturday, Oct. 18, with the world premiere of Ritratto di Beato Angelico, a video work by Federico Tiezzi, the eighth episode of the research work that Tiezzi has been carrying out since 2021 together with Sandro Lombardi on The Lives of Giorgio Vasari. The screening anticipates an exclusive dialogue, scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, between Tiezzi and CarlBrandon Strehlke, curator emeritus of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the current exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi. The calendar of events also includes the Bandini Museum’s traditional Fridays, which host the cycle Looking at Angelico. Artistic Dialogues Out of Time, curated by Silvia Borsotti and Laura Corti. On Nov. 14, Angelo Tartuferi, curator of the exhibition at the San Marco Museum, will give a talk entitled Fra Giovanni da Fiesole at the Convent of San Domenico. On Nov. 28, Anna Maria Bernacchioni will discuss L’Angelico and the Florentine workshops of the 15th century, while on Dec. 12 Laura Corti and Magnolia Scudieri will analyze La riscoperta dell’Angelico tra Ottocento e Novecento.
Programming includes initiatives dedicated to young audiences. On Nov. 23 and Dec. 13 there will be two workshops entitled The Art of Light and Shadows, designed by Teresa Porcella of the SciogliLibro Association, in collaboration with the Museums of Fiesole. For art enthusiasts, it will be possible to visit Beato Angelico’s monumental Crucifixion in the Chapter House of the Convent of San Domenico, recently restored after years of oblivion. The work, probably hidden in 1566 and rediscovered only in 1880, will be open to the public from Oct. 4, 2025, to Jan. 24, 2026, every Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m.
In January, as part of the Philosophy at the Museum cycle, Luca Farulli, professor of Aesthetics at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, will lead three conversations on the theme of light in art, entitled Aesthetic Corridor Between Light and Color, scheduled for Jan. 10, 17 and 21, 2026.
Fiesole, a candidate for Italian Capital of Culture 2028 with the dossier Dialogues between Earth and Sky, has developed a project lasting more than six months under the scientific direction of Paolo Verri. The program focuses on the theme of dialogue in all its forms: between cultures, generations, arts, memory and nature. The itinerary is divided into eight chapters: Fiesole city that resonates, Fiesole secret garden, Fiesole widespread community, Fiesole transmission of memory, Fiesole landscape of knowledge, Fiesole human nature, Fiesole window on infinity and Fiesole center of cosmopolitan culture. Altogether, the project includes 66 initiatives born out of collaboration with citizens, institutions, cultural associations and local businesses, with the aim of enhancing culture as a tool for growth and cohesion. The full dossier is available online at the City of Fiesole website.
