From Oct. 2, 2022 to June 3, 2023, the Antonio Dalle Nogare Foundation presents its first group exhibition on the occasion of the centenary of Mirella Bentivoglio's birth.

The Antonio Dalle Nogare Foundation presents its first group exhibition, entitled Re-Materialization of Language. 1978 - 2022, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Mirella Bentivoglio (Klagenfurt, 1922 - Rome, 2017). Curated by Cristiana Perrella and Andrea Viliani, with curator addition Vittoria Pavesi, the exhibition will present from October 2, 2022 to June 3, 2023 a selection of the works originally shown at the exhibition Materializzazione del linguaggio that Mirella Bentivoglio held in 1978 at Magazzini del Sale alle Zattere, as part of the XXXIX Venice Biennale. Along with these, other coeval ones and partly unpublished documentation materials (catalog, poster, photographs of the installation, inauguration and performances) will be exhibited in a new exhibition design conceived by architect and artist Matilde Cassani. The exhibition layout, modeled on the alphabetic taxonomy of an archive, is imagined to be the starting point for the imagination, creation and sharing of further alphabets and thus further narratives, in which the public will also be involved. The matrix of the alphabet is also the one from which all the artists in the exhibition start in their works, in order to make it their own, subvert it and recast it.

The language of the exhibition will also be periodically and progressively rematerialized by the contributions and interventions of several contemporary women artists, whose names will be announced at the opening, and by a plurality of in-depth and confrontational events, both digital and live. In this way, too, Re-Materialization of Language. 1978 - 2022 takes the form of a discourse that is still continuing today and represents the first chapter of a long-term research project conducted by the curators to investigate the existence and consistency of Paper Museums, that is, to explore the interconnection between the identity of the museum institution and that of the archives, between the works housed in the former and the documents preserved in the latter, analyzing historical manifestations and re-actualizing archival-based artistic and curatorial practices in which the statuses of museum and archive, work and document are compared and confused.

The 1978 one represented the belated reintegration of women’s and feminist art practices in an edition of the Venice Biennale evidently unaware of them, although the perception that it was a marginalizable event set the stage for its substantial historiographical removal. Conceived as a narrative of “the relationship between women and language” and dedicated to the verbo-visual researches of ninety international women artists and poets, the exhibition included a multiplicity of heterogeneous materials and individual and collective practices that materialized a language understood and practiced as an “unconditioned and transgressive” mode of communication. Rejecting patriarchal language, visual and textual works, volumes of poetry and prose, artist’s books and embroideries, live performances and videos, drawings and graphics, notes and doodles, sheets and papers were articulated in the 1978 exhibition as poetic expression and critical awareness, images of a collective self-representation, traces of individual memory, bodies in action.

Re-Materialization of Language. 1978 - 2022 is organized in collaboration with the Mart in Rovereto, with the support of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano-South Tyrol.
