Egyptian Museum hosts accessibility training for 250 museum, archives and library directors

The Egyptian Museum in Turin has kicked off the Missione Accessibilità project, a training course intended for 250 directors of museums, archives and libraries throughout Italy.

The Ministry of Culture, together with the National School of Heritage and Cultural Activities, inaugurated at the Egyptian Museum in Turin the Missione Accessibilità project , a training course intended for 250 directors of museums, archives and libraries throughout Italy. For the first time, figures at the top of cultural institutions are directly involved in an in-depth study ofaccessibility, examining Italian and international best practices, but also analyzing critical issues and mistakes already experienced. Thanks to this experience, each executive will have the opportunity to transform the acquired skills into concrete choices and targeted actions to make their reality more inclusive, sustainable, accessible and able to dialogue with heterogeneous audiences.

“Mission Accessibility” is part of Personeper, the first national training plan dedicated to accessibility in cultural venues, funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU program as part of the PNRR Culture 4.0. The initiative is promoted by the General Directorate of Museums of the Ministry of Culture and coordinated by the National School of Heritage and Cultural Activities.

The calendar, developed in collaboration with the Egyptian Museum, includes five appointments between October 2025 and February 2026, each targeting 50 directors. The chosen approach is experiential and workshop-based: no predefined models are proposed, but a path is built together to translate general principles into operational tools.

"Training in cultural accessibility represents a strategic lever to accompany museums, archives and libraries towards a structural and lasting transformation. With the Mission Accessibility course , part of the Peopleper program, developed together with the National School of Heritage and Cultural Activities as part of the NRP Accessibility training plan, we intend to offer directors of museums, archives and libraries a critical and planning perspective that will accompany them in strengthening their capacity to make cultural places increasingly inclusive, welcoming and sustainable," says Massimo Osanna, Director General Museums of the Ministry of Culture.

"With this important project, the National School of Heritage and Cultural Activities works alongside the directors of cultural places, promoting a dialogue that generates exchange, confrontation and mutual growth: a training that does not just transmit content, but builds a community of practice that recognizes in accessibility a strategic, structural and permanent value, declares Onofrio Cutaia, extraordinary commissioner of the National School of Heritage and Cultural Activities. “With the Ministry of Culture we look to the future of the national cultural system, strengthening its capacity to include, innovate and dialogue with society.”

“With the course for directors of museums, archives and libraries, the Egyptian Museum is promoting a real cultural revolution: transforming accessibility from a simple regulatory compliance to a strategic lever of innovation,” says Christian Greco, Director of the Egyptian Museum. “Our experience at the Egyptian Museum shows that rethinking communication, interpretation, and space design from a participatory perspective not only broadens audiences, but enriches the experience of all visitors. Through this training we want to share our practices, the critical issues encountered and the solutions developed, creating a network of expertise that can generate an impact on the Italian cultural landscape. The workshop approach of the course reflects our belief that accessibility is built through confrontation, experimentation and continuous listening to audiences. Only in this way can we build cultural institutions that are truly places of inclusion and democratic participation in culture, looking at present and future challenges with a sustainable strategic vision.”
